Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered a variety of engaging indie games. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a character that is literally a dung attempting to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is simple: press a one button to leap. Throughout 150 challenges, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.
Time your movements carefully, since one error means restarting the level. Leap using floating orbs to launch the poop higher, cross fragile surfaces, and interact with switches to unlock secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase more difficult game content where things intensifies.
Graphically, the experience shows off eye-catching environments and catchy background music. The retro art of moving geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although tough to recall similar titles where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references is present a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on computers on November 19.
