Team captain Cummins is unavailable for the opening Test, commencing later this month, so the loss of another experienced fast bowler like Hazlewood might have represented a significant setback
Abbott was not expected to participate at the Perth match, while Hazlewood will combine Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland as the specialist seamers
The captain, rehabilitating from spinal concerns, is expected to be on track to return for the Brisbane match commencing December fourth
Batsman Steve Smith will lead Australia while Cummins is out
